Group E Lab Data, Week 5: Weaving

Tapestry Loom

We didn’t spend much time tapestry weaving. We were, I believe, the fourth group to do tapestry weaving. We managed a few rows continuing an attempted triangle pattern and then we went back to card weaving. I didn’t record the number of rows we managed but it couldn’t have been more than five.

Warp Weighted Loom

Group E was the third group to use the warp weighted loom, so we benefited from not having to worry about setting it up. We rotated through with about four or five minutes per team, although we were told to move on before we could fully complete the rotation.

Our average weaving speed was around 45 seconds per row, with about 6 rows per round once we got going. Our first team made it through 3-4 rows, since we were still working out how to weave. Our final team had a good pace, but we were moved to tapestry weaving before we reached the full time for that round.

The final length of cloth was around 3 centimeters, although I did not actually measure it before moving on.

Card Weaving

Card weaving was limited by the fact that the hanks of yarn were very tangled and we had to deal with that before most people were able to begin. As such, the amount of time that people put in varied, affecting the final length of the band. We also spent different amounts of time on it outside of the lab period, which further impacted the end results. For example, Sam did not make her own band, but helped Talia with theirs. I was personally limited by the fact that I ended up unweaving some of it in order to fix the pattern.
