Group F weaving data

I was the data recorder for group F. We started with card weaving, tried the warp-weighted loom and then the tapestry loom, and then went back to card weaving for a while.

Tablet weaving:

Given that we were card weaving in between other activities, that some people took home their card weaving, that some group members spent time untagleing wool, and that the weaving process had some setup time, it’s hard to give a definitive rate for how quickly we were able to weave using the cards, but in total, our group members completed 13.5, 31, and 33 centimeters of card woven material.

Roughly estimated, the setup took approximately 30 minutes, and each member spent 2 hours weaving, giving an average of 12.9 cm of fabric per hour.

Warp-weighted loom:

At the warp weighted loom, we each took a different role for five minutes.

With Daniel shuttling, Bella beating, and Violet using the hettle rods,

we finished 4 rows in 5 minutes.

With Violet shuttling, Daniel beating, and Bella using the hettle rods,

we finished 8 rows in 5 minutes.

With Bella shuttling, Violet beating, and Daniel using the hettle rods,

we finished 3 rows in 5 minutes.

It should be noted that we had a particularly tough shed to separate during this last configuration, which greatly affected the output thanks to the small sample time.

Tapestry loom:

At the tapestry loom, we all worked collaboratively on the same weave, picking out the shed from both sides of the loom with needles and spare shuttles. We tried to start a diagonal pattern, which may have slowed us down.

We wove 8 rows (2.3 cm) over the course of 17 minutes.
