Group A Data Recorder: Jacob S.; Group B Data Recorder: Ugo A.
The chart below tracks the temperatures of two pots during our attempt to fire them around a smaller fire some distance from the funeral pyre. Pot #1 was made by Jacob as part of Group D, while Pot #2 was an arb-clay pot made by Group F. We took our measurements every 10 minutes using a temperature gun. The gun was unable to accurately or consistently measure temperatures past ~500 degrees celsius, so for the final temperature measurements a higher range temperature gun was utilized.
| Time (minutes) | Pot #1 Temp (°C) | Pot #2 Temp (°C) |
| 10 | 80 | 70 |
| 20 | 90 | 80 |
| 30 | 150 | 148 |
| 40 | 199 | 213 |

Notes: 1) The first couple measurements were taken pointing the thermal gun at the side farthest from the fire, but then Ugo came up with the bright idea of wearing a glove to take measurements. This is context for the sudden jump, it’s more accurate temp taking. 2) We were very slow to reach our desire temp. There are a mix of things this may be from. It may be that we started with the pots way too far out, maybe about a foot or so. At the same time, however, it could also be that we just didn’t build a fire that raged strongly and for as long as we needed it to.
Timeline: From 0-20 minutes the pots were about 6 inches-1 foot away from the fire, being rotated every 10 minutes. At 20 minutes the pots were moved closer to the fire, to about 2-3 inches away.
At 40 minutes the pots were flipped so that their bottoms faced the fire, and at 50 minutes they were rotated so that the rims faced the fire.
By 110 minutes, all but one of the loom weights had popped/broken apart. At 120 minutes the fire was smothered for about 30 minutes, where the fire was then uncovered and the pots removed.
Data is only available for Pot #1 after forming the teepee fire over the stacked pots, as Pot #2 was hidden within. There is no data for 70 minutes due to our switch from pot warming/drying into firing.
