The following table records the temperature of the same pot every 10 minutes as it was fired on the funeral pyre. We used a laser temperature gun to take measurements. At first this was really uncomfortable because of the heat of the fire, so Sasha took our group’s reading at the same time as those of Group C.
| Time (minutes) | Temperature of pot (ÂșC) |
|---|---|
| 10 | 424 |
| 20 | 600 |
| 30 | 610 |
| 40 | 728 |
| 50 | 542 |
| 60 | 466 |
| 70 | 58 |
| 80 | 50 |
At 40 minutes, we manipulated the fire for the first time since ignition, adding fuel on top of the pig’s body. While the highest recorded temperature came at 40 minutes, it is possible that the real temperature of the pot we were observing rose above that level.
After 50 minutes, we gradually removed most of the pots from the fire. One pot remained at 60 minutes, and the measurement for that time is recorded above.
The figures for 70 and 80 minutes were recorded after all the pots had been removed from the fire, which accounts for the significant drop in temperature.
