Data collecting for wool week was a little less numerical, and quite a bit more qualitative. Things such as different wool types were definitively “vibes-based”.
Data
Carding
Group A started with carding, where we carded with modern carders and hackles. There was a general ability to card more wool with the hackles, as more wool could be loaded at a time.
Spinning
We measured the weight of our collective final yarn product, and had a total of 41.7 grams of what was technically yarn. (16.6g from me, 16.8 from Jacob, and 8.3 from Sasha)
Dyeing
Our group was the weld yellow group. We started with a 94.3g skein of yarn, and Maddy’s suggested ration was 1:2 weld to yarn, so we used 47.2 g of weld. The optimal temperature was 160-180 degrees Fahrenheit for about 45 minutes. As this was out last station, we had to leave before we got to temperature, but the water was at 136 degrees when we left. Maddy then took over the process for us, and so it likely was done better than we would have been able to achieve. We then ran the yarn through maybe 8 cold water baths to get the water to run clear.
