Group F:
Clay data:
We used clay that had been collected from the arb. As such, we did not add any tempers as the clay already contained some small rocks, sand, and other natural tempers. Because of this, the percentage of clay by mass is not recorded. Since we mixed our own clay, we also recorded the dry mass of the clay before and after adding water. These weights, unfortunately, do not perfectly represent the amount of clay that ended up in the finished pots, as we did not use all of our clay, and a lot of water was added during the sculpting process. 33g of hydrated clay was also taken from each group member’s clay for the test bar.
| Dry mass (g) | Hydrated mass (g) | Mass after test bar subtraction (g) | |
| Bella | 500 | 567 | 534 |
| Daniel | 500 | 560 | 527 |
| Violet | 500 | 540 | 507 |
Test bar data:
| Orinigal | After 1 day | Loss | Percentage loss | |
| Weight (g) | 100 | 87 | 13 | 13% |
| Height (cm) | 0.76 | 0.82 | N/A | N/A |
| Length (cm) | 15 | 14.5 | 0.5 | 0.03% |
| Width (cm) | 5 | 4.5 | 0.5 | 10% |
| Scale bar (cm) | 10 | 9.5 | 0.5 | 5% |
Some small measurements which were taken with a micrometer, such as the height of the test bar and the wall section width of the pots, appear to have grown. We guess that this is due to the possibility of the micrometer pinching the wet clay and measuring a too-small value, which it couldn’t do when the clay had hardened.
Pot data
Some repairs were made after the first day with a small amount of new clay that we mixed. While a relatively small amount of clay was added to the pots in this process, it may mean that the mass percentage loss doesn’t quite represent the entire loss of water mass.
